Sports massage is a commonly used tool among athletes. In fact, regular massage incorporated into one’s healthcare regimen can decrease the frequency, lessen the severity, and even prevent the occurrence of sports-related injuries. In addition, many of my clients have noticed dramatic changes in their athletic performance since receiving massages regularly.
Such issues as muscle strain, tendonitis, after-event stiffness and soreness are highly responsive to various massage techniques and passive and facilitated stretching. In addition, massage serves to condition the muscles to make them capable of a higher level of performance with less strain and to rid the tissues of metabolic waste material following rigorous exercise. While serious injuries usually call for medical intervention, such as physical therapy or chiropractic treatment, massage therapy along with these approaches can lead to a smoother, quicker recovery.
