Stiff necks come from a multitude of causes, from sleeping wrong or having to crane our necks at a seminar to the most common causes: hours spent staring at a computer screen and just plain poor posture.
The ultimate result is the same. We find that we cannot turn our heads without pain or we are just too stiff to turn our heads at all. Obviously this is a vast oversimplification of the many factors that are implicated in neck issues; there isn’t enough space for me to enumerate all of them here. But most of us have experienced neck pain and can agree that it is no fun.
However, in my fifteen years of experience as a massage therapist, this is one of the issues that I encounter that is MOST responsive to massage.
